Should Bobby Moynihan play John Belushi in a biopic?

Here's an author's take...

The big movie news today is that "The Hangover" director Todd Phillips is developing a biopic chronicling the too-short life of comedian and actor John Belushi. The portly "Saturday Night Live" vet passed away in 1982, at the age of 33, the victim of a drug overdose. In spite of his abbreviated career, Belushi held starring roles in what many consider to be two of the greatest comedies in the history of film: "Blues Brothers" and "Animal House."

Bobby Moynihan
If there's any name on this list that you're confused about, it's Bobby Moynihan. Who is this guy? He's a current cast member on "Saturday Night Live" who bears no small resemblance to Belushi. He's got virtually no big screen experience and no starring roles. To go from contributing to a weekly sketch comedy show to leading a blockbuster biopic... that's a hard one to swallow. He's hard not to at least consider though, given his resemblance to the subject.

Read about the author's other candidates here:
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/08/12/john-belushi-biopic-coming-from-todd-phillips-so-mtv-does-a-little-armchair-casting/

What about Jim Belushi? Would that be too difficult for John's brother to do it?

Bobby Moynihan - is filming Certainty right now

This image has nothing to do with it:

Check out the Certainty movie here:

Bobby Moynihan is filming Certainty right now. It might even be done filming. I doubt it will release this year since it usually takes awhile to edit, test, and market it.

Bobby Moynihan - When In Rome (on Blu-ray)

When In Rome is now on Blu-ray, and to celebrate it, here's a bad review of Bobby Moynihan:

And speaking of intolerable, "SNL" star Bobby Moynihan pops up now and then to screech like a wounded monkey as Nick's beer-swilling, improv-silly BFF, tearing around the frame as if there wasn't even a director on-set.

Read the full review here:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/44203/when-in-rome/

Now about THE BLU-RAY:

Visual:

The AVC encoded image (2.35:1 aspect ratio) preserves the golden cinematographic intention of the film, which provides a glow to the Roman antics to submit a proper romantic mood.

Audio:

The 5.1 DTS-HD sound mix provides a full sonic experience, with heavy emphasis on slapstick acrobatics and soundtrack selections, which retain a proper punch of low-end beats to help the movie bounce along.

Extras:

"Alternate Opening & Ending" (7:17) includes Beth's first-act encounter with a drunk partygoer and tough security, and a last-act gag with a mummified Jon Heder.

"Crazy Casanovas: Mischief from the Set" (12:28) is a making-of featurette, interviewing cast and crew about their experiences on the set and how well they interacted with one another. At one point, Kristen Bell is described as having "the body of a young woman and the soul of the Marx Brothers." That's exactly that type of promotional gobbledygook being served here.

"Extended Pain with the Suitors" (2:39) is actually the original title of "When in Rome." I kid. The supplement consists of three brief deleted scenes with the smitten boobs as they participate in an art installation.

"Kerplunk! Bloopers from Rome" (3:07) is a dreary affair, showcasing tired mix-em-ups from the cast as they deal with faulty improvisations and props.

"Deleted Scenes" (7:45) bring around more hysteria for Beth as she attempts to reverse the curse and juggle male advances, offers more sexual forwardness from Al, extended mummification with Lance, spies a naked lady painting of our heroine, and includes a brief scene with the suitors as they submit a few more jokes.

"Music Videos" for "Starstrukk" (by 3OH!3 Featuring Katy Perry) and "Stupid Love Letter" (by Friday Night Boys) are presented.

Bobby Moynihan - new movie - Certainty

Certainty, starring Valerie Harper & Bobby Moynihan, is shooting in Ft. Totten, Bayside, Queens.

Valerie Harper is best known for her role as Rhoda on Mary Tyler Moore Show (70-77) and her spinoff show, Rhoda (74-78). She also led Valerie / The Hogan Family from 86-87.

Since they're filming now, my guess is that it will release in Spring 2011. It sounds like Bobby is second bill, so he might play her son.

Mystery Team out on DVD

Even some of the smaller roles in the film were played by people who have gone on to higher profile work, like Ellie Kemper, who is on "The Office" now, or Bobby Moynihan, who went on SNL.

Bobby's back:

Is Bobby Moynihan's Puck the most annoying movie sidekick ever?

Here's a negative review on Bobby's performance in "When in Rome"...

But as you keep looking - in vain - for the funny expected from the talent available, it all starts to feel painfully worse.

Throw in an excruciatingly insufferable Bobby Moynihan who, as Puck, is possibly the film world's most irritating sidekick ever, and "When in Rome" becomes one disappointingly bag of idiotic blandness.

Bobby Moynihan helps make When In Rome funny

Admittedly, When In Rome does have a couple of chuckles thanks to Heder's attempts at magic, as well as a spirited turn from "Saturday Night Live" performer Bobby Moynihan as Duhamel's friend and co-worker Puck. Most impressive, however, is Don Johnson as Beth's father who appears to have simply taken a role that allowed him a paid vacation in Italy. I mean, who could blame a guy for taking that gig?

Glad to hear that Bobby makes the movie better! If only he was in it more!

Bobby Moynihan - interview about When In Rome

So this is Bobby's first real film, and this interview was before he was even on SNL (it's while he was working on the film). Bobby could probably be a lot more "smooth" in his interviews now.

Click here for the video interview:

http://www.americansuperstarmag.com/video/bobby-moynihan-when-in-rome-interview

Bobby Moynihan discusses the feature film "When in Rome."

Disillusioned with romance, an ambitious New Yorker travels to Rome, where she plucks magic coins from a special fountain. The coins attract an assortment of odd suitors, including a sausage merchant, a street magician and an artist. But, when a persistent reporter throws his hat in the ring, she wonders if his love is the real thing.

"When in Rome," starring Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel, Anjelica Huston, Danny DeVito and Will Arnett, opens in theaters nationwide on January 29.

Bobby Moynihan - in When in Rome (trailer)

Bobby's got a few funny lines in this trailer:

This looks pretty good with humorous appearances by Dax Shepherd as well.

Looks like Bobby filmed this before he started on SNL.

About the movie:

An ambitious young New Yorker, disillusioned with romance, takes a whirlwind trip to Rome where she defiantly plucks magic coins from a fountain of love, inexplicably igniting the passion of those who threw them in.

In theaters Friday, January 29, 2010
