Following in little brother's footsteps

Who doesn't love a good story of second chances, redemption, and Buccaneers football? Well, I might have gone a little overboard on the latter, but this is a cool story about how an older brother and convicted felon, followed the path of his younger brother to play football at the University of Illinois. Since the lad did hard time in West Virginia, I'm thinking he may actually be from West Virginia, so that might interest some of the readership. Check it out here.

Henderson Halloween in Hurricane

Halloween in Hurricane W.V. runs a bit differently that Halloween in Bradenton, or Halloween in any place for that matter where I've lived the past 33 years. Its more of a socialist style. The powers that be regulate WHEN trick-or-treating will take place; this year it was Thursday, Oct 28th from 6-8 pm. Kind of weird, but this Halloween provided a number of great opportunities.

We had some friends from our old apartment complex come over and share a meal with us. Then afterward Strawberry Shortcake and Batman traversed the neighborhood roads, forgetting all that we taught them about the evils of the street. I got to meet several neighbors, who had otherwise seemed to care very little that we had moved in near them. In addition, we received some more invitations to play with some families in the "younger" neighborhood just below ours (yes, here in hilly WV, neighborhoods are often below or above each other!).

If your conviction keeps you inside for Halloween, then that's fine with me. But I wanted to share how the Devil's holiday opened up some future evangelistic and friendship opportunities for the Henderson's. At least for us, I hardly think Satan was pleased with our evening.

Reunion

The Jersey Shore reunion that MTV had on last night was very eventful. Each of the cast members got to come together once again. But unfortunately Angelina didn't make it to the reunion. (Even though no one missed her!) The host had the chance to talk with the cast members about many different events that went on during season 2. The boys explained what MVP really meant and how important MVP night really is. The host also asked how "cabs are here" and "oh yeah" came a daily saying for Pauly D. Pauly simply said " It is a nightmare getting 8 people ready to to the club," " So when i yell cabs are here, they all know it is time to go." He seems to think this method really helped. Another event that they had to bring up was how Mike had a situation with a tran-ade. A tran-ade is a transsexual grenade. Mike says that this guy really looked like a girl but he blamed it on the alcohol. And of course they talked about the letter. I'm pretty sure Sam still has cold feelings about J Woww. I personally love watching the reunion because they play deleted scenes, and it is hilarious to watch them. But all the cast members are totally pumped about next season and all of there fans are excited too!

Wedding Style: Hauntingly Gorgeous Goth

It's finally here!  With Halloween just two days away, this post concludes our creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky series.  When planning for your Halloween event it is not always necessary to include ghosts, pumpkins, witches and the like. If those things seem a little too silly and childish for you then the best alternative for you would be to think in terms of Gothic style.  Instead of ghouls and spider webs you get roses and lace.  The key players in this motif are black and dark, blood red, candles, ornate damask prints, and lace.  These may not be the most traditionally beautiful spaces, but there is something eerily enchanting about this type of decor that we just can't seem to resist.

Horror movies always take place in the dark, which means you need candles! Candles are a great way of adding light and ambiance to your venue, and the type of candles you choose can really shape the theme of your wedding. You can opt for heavy pewter candelabras with tall, thin candles, or large pillar candles to give it a Gothic feel.

We truly believe that your choice in flowers really sets your wedding theme, which is why we think these black calla lilies are perfect if you're going for a dark, Gothic theme.  Lilies are often related to funerals and death, but traditionally they signify innocence and purity! Regardless, they are beautiful. If you're not into the lilies, however, then opt for black roses as a nice twist on tradition.

This Gothic wedding cake proves that beauty is in the details.  Seriously, how gorgeous is this cake?! It simple, but so detailed! Covered in swirls, vines and flowers, this cake really helps evoke the feelings of love and passion and it just looks too good to eat!

Or, for something even more dramatic (did you think that was possible?) check out this bloody masterpiece.  It's gorgeous in that American Beauty meets True Blood meets Twilight kind of way.

The first thing you think of when you think of horror and Gothic style are skulls, and we agree with that sentiment.  However, as far as your wedding goes, you may want to hold back on the skulls, as it can be a little too kitschy and Hot Topic for our tastes.  With that said, we think you can use skulls in your decor to add a subtle and interesting look, without coming off as too Avril Levine. Try this silver skull place card holder, for example. It's small, discrete, and tasteful (as far as skulls go), plus it's practical!

Antique rings are both unique and beautiful!  This antique Edwardian ring is an intricate little work of art and would be a perfect engagement ring for the off-beat or Gothic bride.

Sexy & sultry, the birdcage veil is a must have for a modern Gothic wedding.  There is something about it that is just so mysterious and alluring.  Plus, the feathers on top really help to give this a costume-y Halloween feel.

Unique guest books are always fun!  This ultra eerie book and feather pen are a beautiful and unique way incorporate the Halloween theme into your event.  The torn pages are a nice touch and create an aged look and the matte finish on the frame and table certainly add to the drama.

The Goth bride can't just wear any old dress - she needs a dress with character, something enchanting and a little different. Luckily Claire Pettibone has such a great eye for romantic details and this dress from her 2009 Fall collection is perfect for our post today.  Having a Halloween wedding doesn't have to mean costumes and scary make-up, it can be really feminine and pretty if done the right way.

Double, double toil and trouble.

End of Season 2

In this episode the house members got the chance to go to the everglades. So they spent the day site seeing and hanging out with alligators. After they were done with their tour they went and eat at a local restaurant. The food there was all deep fried seafood, including frogs! After they left the restaurant and headed back home, Mike had Ronny pull over so he could release all the nasty things he just had consumed at the restaurant. I guess it wasn't as good as he thought.

Also Vinny and Pauly went on their last dates with their girls. They each took their girls to  special restaurant to enjoy their last night together. Pauly D and Vinny both think that they have found the perfect girls for them from Miami.

That night after the boys were done on their dates all the roommates decided to spend the night at home together. But that night didn't go as planned with the roommates. They started the night out with playing a game. The game was to vote for people who was the most of something. Like Pauly D was the most likely to get skin cancer. They all had different categories that they were voting each other in. Then Mike came up with the an idea. The said who was the most fake person in the house. He voted for J Woww. No one said anything, and then they ended the game. Snookie said that Pauly D and Vinny agreed with Mike by knodding their heads when he said J Woww was fake. J Woww then confronted Pauly and Vinny. Next thing you know is the roommates are fighting. Pauly never gets mad but when he does he has veins popping out everywhere! Just like every fight, it blew over and they relized they were all leaving and can't be fighting like this. But the next day they all packed their bags and said their goodbyes to one another. Everyone was said and couldn't believe that this day came so quick that they needed to say goodbye. Their big family was once again broken up. But there is still tension between J Woww and Sam. When Sam left she just gave J Woww the cold shoulder and didn't say bye, she just left. So I guess that we will have to see what will happen on the reunion between them, and what next season will bring us!

Color Day: Halloween (Orange and Black)

Better late than never!  We apologize to our regular readers for having to wait so long for today's color post so, without further ado:

When it comes to selecting color schemes not everyone goes for soft, coordinating colors. Some brave souls take the road less traveled and go for bold contrast. Luckily for those with a flair for fright, Halloween is all about the drama! Orange and black are the traditional colors associated with Halloween, probably due to a variety of things such as darkness, death, and the general orange-y colors of the harvest. Orange and black can be a fun pairing to really get you in the "spirit" of fall, but it can also be elegant and warm depending on the shades of orange you go with.  A vibrant orange will give you that youthful, spooktacular, kind of feel while a butternut squash or pumpkin hue will create a space that feels more cozy and sophisticated.

Yoke of Jesus longed for by Old Test folks

While reading through Lamentations, I came across a moving passage that sent me running to Jesus and thought I'd share it with you.

Lamentations 1:14 "My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they were set upon my neck; he caused my strength to fail; the Lord gave me into the hands of those whom I cannot withstand."

Israel, after years and years of unfaithfulness to the Lord, highlighted by idolatry and social injustices and oppression, was sent into exile. Most of them were taken out of the land that they loved, the land they were promised by God Himself. However, he told them that if they didn't follow Him faithfully, they would be given the old "heave-ho." This is spelled out clearly in Deuteronomy 28.

Jeremiah really examines and reflects upon the depths they have fallen. Like a one hit wonder, they were on top for a time, and now they are on the bottom. And they are now experiencing the punishment, for a season, for their unfaithfulness. They are given but a taste of ultimate judgment, the experience of carrying their sins around their necks.

But there is hope to come. Jesus calls people to believe and follow Him, and he promises the opposite of this passage. Instead of carrying the yoke of sin, in Matthew 11:30, He claims "my yoke is easy and my burden is light." That's way better.

How is this the case? Well, for one thing, Jesus experienced the wrath of God for us, being exiled from the love of the Father while on the cross. Israel's exile foreshadowed Jesus' exile.

The yoke of a Christian's sin has been carried by another. So it is good to lament, and right for Jeremiah, or whoever wrote that book, to lament. But because of our vantage point, lamentations can ultimately end up in praise.
